As we transition from the hot summer sun to the gentle embrace of early fall, I can't help but wonder—how was your summer? Did you embark on an unforgettable journey, spend your time camping, chasing Kootenay waterfalls? Did you, or explore faraway lands?
I’d love to hear all about your adventures and escapades, so don't hesitate to share your travel tales!
Speaking of fall, there's something undeniably magical about the calendar’s flip from August to September. School starts, the air cools, gardens are put to bed, and using an oven is new again. 😊
As the days shorten, what better way to embrace this season than with a good book? To welcome you to early fall, here’s a list of my recent reads, and a few that are ‘on my list’. Yes, they are travel related books, and I hope they transport you to far-off places from the comfort of your armchair.
Whether it's an epic and odd journey to Antarctica, a travelling North American funeral, a gripping mystery through China, a novel set in Iceland’s northern lights, these books are sure to fuel your wanderlust.
How The Penguins Saved Veronica
Fiction: Author - Hazel Prior
How could I not buy and dive into this book. It’s fiction.
It’s fluffy at times, and it’s a heartwarming read. Hazel’s descriptions of the beloved Adelie’s are brilliant.
Thank you for the recommendation, Huckleberry Books.
Annie Freeman’s Fabulous Traveling Funeral
Fiction: Author – Kris Radish
The first time I read this book was likely 15-ish years ago.
I rarely read a book twice, although was tugged to reread this book again. Kris Radish’s descriptions of love, grief, discovery and the powerful bonds of ’friendships’ are remarkable.
This book was absolutely worthy of a second read.
Into Xinjiang
Fiction: Author - Ben Colbridge
A young British traveller finds himself fleeing through China after being falsely accused of a crime, the pace doesn’t let up.
Author Ben Colbridge, who works in the travel industry, claims it is based on real events. OH MY!
With an intro like this how can this NOT be on a ‘list to read.’
If you’ve read it, I’d LOVE to hear your review. I haven’t read this book … yet.
Burial Rites
Author – Hannah Kent
The story is about Agnes Magnusdottir, the last woman executed in Iceland (in 1830), for her role in a double murder. This book landed on my must-read list, learning about it this summer in Iceland, when visiting the site of where the executions took place.
Have you read this Aussie authored book?
